The Art & Science of Leadership

Leadership – Effective leadership…..How to be a good leader??? What is a leader without his/her followers?? Can this quality be developed or is there something called “born leader”????? I have answers… I assume I know the key which I am in process of practicing…..I believe people need success stories of REAL people before they believe you…. you need to give them examples…..or you can even choose to LEAD by examples. I chose to lead by example… but if I share it after I am myself a success story.. it would be too late…. Isn’t it ?? Hence I thought it would be better if I make people know certain things from my ongoing experiences and in turn learn from them.. thru their comments.

You need to know some background beforehand right. So here’s the brief - I am heading a Department. I am just 24 … and there are people in my organization…. in fact in my department with more than this number of experience…..I head them… I am supposed to lead them… I am their leader by virtue of my position… Authority flows from my position… I wanted to be a leader…. I had no time for self assessment…. There was no meaning of any self assessment….. I din’t know whether I can lead …. But somebody had known had believed…. I have got a chance why waste it…..

I am trying to inculcate few principles to do it…… You might not find flow at this stage…. Just let me randomly put it down…. Bear with me….

First thing you need to know is you need to grow to be a leader…. how can you grow??? When u help people under you grow??? Avoid stagnancy….. at all points of time have a definitive goal … add something innovative informative even if it is to their routine tasks … may be making it simpler without compromising on the quality of reporting…. So that they have extra time…and you help them learn some other person’s work as well….. have a vision to accomplish the goal….. and communicate the whole thing to them… so at all points of time they are part of the process……

Your team / department must look up to you…. you have to be knowledgeable…. Only qualification doesn’t help…. I am a Chartered Accountant…. Only this doesn’t help… I need to forever keep pace with the ever dynamic ever changing surroundings….. help them in finding solutions…. you have to be well read…… try and be some source of information to them….. share your knowledge with them to the extent possible…. Remove insecurity from your system so that you can remove it from theirs.

It is how you connect with people… respect people…. they should feel protected when they are working under you…. you have to be the ozone layer…. protect them from ultraviolet rays of sun in form of office politics etc., taking responsibility of their actions, maintaining balance…. these are very preliminary principles though …

Art of decision making and taking responsibility for your decisions… is one very important trait that you need to develop to be a leader….

To be continued.......

Untitled / Incomplete

Untitled

I once had the pleasure of indulgence
In the highest manifestation of human intelligence
With the greatest & mightiest incarnation
Beyond our mortal imagination.

Far from the expectations of thunderous sound
Don’t be surprised on what I found
The fusion of seven musical notes flowed into my ears
& that was the experience all sages spent their lives for years.

Can’t tell what He looked like – about his limbs & face
For he was not in his corporeal form
The peacefulness & quietness of the place
However resembled the calmness before a storm

The seraph who guided me along the way
Reminded me that we had to leave before sun’s first ray.

I began –

“ O the invincible, unparallel,
O the ultimate,
Could u simply ‘xplain to me
Whats this ‘fate’.”

“ Faith in Destiny is not fate
Nor can your stars & palms tell whether you are fortunate
Shape your destiny with your own hands
Good deeds alone by your side stands.”

“Then what happens after we are dead?
Is it just the end of the journey we tread”

“ The counterpart of life is death.
Perform your assigned task till your last breath.
Its effective & timely completion
Mixed with Balance of deeds & devotion
Can alone lead to Mukti”

“ Aahh…”

“ Cease, no more queries
One last thing before the seraph hurries

Perfection is not the goal
For its nothing new for our soul……..

To be Completed…….

IF MOTHER GOES ON STRIKE…..

IF MOTHER GOES ON STRIKE…..

A moment here, a moment there
She always finds work everywhere

From morning five to night at ten
Wasting her time you have seen her when

Attending us & attending the guest
She has no time to relax & rest

She has no choice, she has no mood
Washing clothes, utensils & cooking food

Goes on & on & on the list
From here the story takes atwist

I dread the day when she went on strike
Just as few workers do for a wage hike

I felt my whole world went up & down
The dirtiest, filthiest & shabbiest house was ours in town

No one to run behind us & take our care
Now I felt all her arguments were fair

Mother being a mother still
Could no longer keep her strike as per her will

I said, ‘ O Mom take this stick & me you whack
But please O Mom you come back

Here I do, I do confess
Without you our life is a mess

I will do whatever you l;ike
But never again do you go on strike.

Where……………………Think not………………..

Where……………………
Think not………………..

Where the Road to Achievement begins
Think not your struggle ends.

Where the drama dooms in the phase of life
Think not of its climax – death.

Where the courage itself answers for the brave
Think not worrying of dangers coward’s face.

Where you tread firmly on path to success
Think not of ways you may fail.
Where you selflessly have decided to give
Think not in terms to equally receive

Where there spring up seeds of love
Think not how there hate may develop

Where there you find anything plenty
Think not there nothing scanty

THERE IS NO PLACE LIKE HOME

10.11.2001 THERE IS NO PLACE LIKE HOME

There is no place like home.
You may go to London or Rome.

They may provide you momentary exhilaration
But again home is your ultimate destination.

There is no place so comfortable.
To soothe thee who’s capable.

Erecting just four walls & a roof
Builds a house for you aloof.

But not a sweet home to live in
Or else what is the difference between a house & an inn

To your home you’re just not attached physically
But heartily, mentally and spiritually

Whether there is any heaven above ‘tis unknown
But if its there on earth its certainly our home

So are you not in favour of my view
If not you please review

For there is no place like home
You may go to London or Rome.

THE ABANDONED HOUSE

31.10.2001 THE ABANDONED HOUSE

In the twinkiling milky light of stars,
I spent looking there for hours.

A little far there was a house,
Big & splendid, deserted even by mouse.

What I concluded in my stay of short span,
There went never any man.

They say that the house was haunted,
I thought to go there being undaunted.

Cobwebs hung thickening dust,
But to find out truth there was a lust.

Don’t we live in this scientific age?
Still believing thus made me rage.

Having gone there to investigate.
Will you guess what did I locate?

The confused noises that woke me up everyday
Was just a litter of puppies that lay

Dying in a ditch being so helpless
Next to them was their mother lifeless

Moved I was to see their sufferings & pains
Futility of life to me it explains

The other thing that caught my attention
Was that the belief in ghosts & other superstitions
Is what we have to abandon
And not any place let it be certain…

I donot believe in so called superstitions.... supernatural...paranormal beings. I dunno.... but would want them to be someone like Bhoothnath!!!!

30.10.2001 MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS

30.10.2001 MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS

No matter how benevolently you may advise,
Kindly mind your own business guys.

They don’t seem to grasp it well
What to do of their habits tell!!!

In everybody’s affairs they poke their nose.
Nice thrashing is what they need as dose.

Their stores of useless advise does never exhaust.
You may get it free of cost.

They are least aware of whats the matter
But even then they gossip and chatter

God knows when they’’l come to senses
And learn to mind, their own businesses.

Quite a lot of people will agree with me.

IN SEARCH OF LUCK!!!!

29.10.2001 IN SEARCH OF LUCK!!!

Wandering through this concrete wood
I roamed amd roamed as much I could.

Loitering around in search of what?
This is what you must have thought.

L-U-C-K is what today most wanted,
For without it you seem to be haunted.

After Luck its just not me,
Its you and he and everybody.

No one wants to toil and labour
Everyone wants fortune in his favour.

Fate & Destiny we want to mould
Its better to have Luck in one’s hold.

Seekin Midas touch of Gold
Are people all young and old

But none’s so lucky
And its not so easy

To have luck with him forever
And ever and ever and ever and ever

But I am full of determination
To reach where there is Luck’s destination

And so from every dawn to dusk
I am crazy in search of Luck!!!

Hehehehehe..... few outlook of mine as reflected in this poem might have changed in these years.......some of them in recent times...... AND I TRULY TRULY BELIEVE I AM VERY LUCKY!!!!!!!! ;-)

HOPE / BE HOPEFUL

I had written certain poems quite a many years ago..... thought could share it through this platform:
28.10.2001 HOPE / BE HOPEFUL

In the midst of disaster our only comforter is hope,
To mentally rise above depression it is the only rope.
In the state of utter confusion & complete despair.
When you find support nowhere.
Hope not only soothes and console,
But also develops a keen desire to achieve our goal.
It ensures optimistic approach to Life
And helps us in this struggle to strife.
Sometimes I think it would be how awful
If in this gloomy world we aren’t hopeful.

28.01.2001 TERORISM

Election time is here. People have become aware.....it seems..... Turnout din't reflect it though...
May be the long weekend outing was too good to resist......

It was felt that the TAJ Attack in MUMBAI...the financial hub....the financial capital..... had made people AWARE of their empowerment..... made them WAKE UP......

There are so many expectations from MUMBAI .... after all the voter list here contains the names of Industrialists....Film personalities....Sports Personalities.....other emminent professional in various fields..... more than any other part of India.....security issue...terrorism issue..... I felt was BIG one..... I noe 70% of voters in Mumbai are slum dwellers..... but still.....from slumdogs to millionaires ( no offence meant)....... it did affect a lot of people.....

Had written a poem in 2001... on the 11th Sept attack then..... echoes the feeling everytime... the parliament attack...... the various Bomb Blasts in Trains.... to the latest TAJ ATTACK.....
Here it goes....

Terrorism is now no longer a localised threat,
Plaguing a few countries while the rest are safely left.
But it has now become a global issue,
For the millions of eyes full of tears we have hardly any paper of tissue.

The Black Tuesday of America, don’t you remember?
When the most audacious terrorist attack tend to tremble the world on 11th September
The peace of the whole world was shattered by a terrorist’s diktat.
And what more I felt as if he broke & ate humanism as a kitkat.

Now, what is terror? Can’t we see it or hear?
Evreryone has his own definition though dictionary describes it as extreme fear.
This hour of tragedy does not call upon us only to commiserate
Then what!!
This growing menace of terrorism we have to eradicate.

It seems as if moral & ethical values of life have lost somewhere
In this materialistic world we cam hardly find it anywhere.
On the world’s horizon the clouds of evil loom large,
It is not time for us that against each other we, allegations, charge,

But the hour has certainly arrived
Above all wordly distinctions we have to rise
& unite ourselves
Not against a person, nation or religion
But against all evils like terrorism.
